EYE CANDY | Robyn – “Call Your Girlfriend”

Myspace | Official | Facebook | Twitter

I have always and will always be a fan of good pop music.

And Robyn‘s “Call Your Girlfriend” is a prime example of what I would personally call ‘good’ pop music.

It’s got everything going for it: a message that is quite relatable for many with the whole meeting-someone-new-when-you’re-still-in-a-relationship-and-having-to-break-it-off thing; it’s emotional but not dissolve-into-tears-worthy (simply because it is quite upbeat) unless you’re a melodramatic Pisces (hey, that’s me!) so it’s still something you can sing along to for fun at the right moments.

Or if you’ve just broken up and you are looking for something to cry to, it’s also good for belting along to while the tears stream down your face as you contemplate the sad state of your life post break-up. (It’s okay, you’ll get over it eventually.)

Or if you just want to feel good about the sorry excuse for moves you call dancing, then the video is your solution. Robyn makes awkward dancing cool (again?)! So the next time you go out to the club (or wherever you get your groove on), you’ll have people thinking “Daaaaaaamn, girl” instead of the usual slow backing away accompanied by looks of horror.

You can thank Robyn’s “Call Your Girlfriend” music video for that.

EYE CANDY | The Kills’ “Satellite” (Video)

The Kills‘ released “Satellite” the first single off their forthcoming album Blood Pressures about a week ago, and now here’s the video!

EYE CANDY: Fiona Apple *Interview*

The Queen is back!

Here’s a little clip of Fiona going on about the importance of music and writing in her childhood and how playing live is an almost euphoric experience. Just ’cause, you know, everyone can always use a little bit of Fiona Apple in their lives. She’s all over the place, but I could listen to this woman talk for days, with her engaging rambling and all (even the leopard print gloves); her excitement and intensity is incredibly endearing. She’s still got a little crazy in her, but I wouldn’t have it any other way.

“[Playing live] is somewhere in-between conversation and sex. There’s some kind of knowing of each other, some intimacy, some involvement, some braiding together of people. [...] There’s some kind of interlocking with people that just doesn’t seem to happen any other way quite as grandly and totally.”

After Apple fell off the radar following her return to music with 2005′s Extraordinary Machine (has it really been so long?), so it’s nice to see she’s still alive and kickin’. She probably just came out of writing hibernation, because she’s releasing her long overdue 4th studio album come Spring 2011. About time, considering there’s a 5-year-deep Fiona Apple-shaped hole in my music collection.

Plus, I sort miss the angst-ridden, angry girl + piano combo.

You know what they say: “An apple a day keeps the doctor away.” And I definitely love me some Fiona Apple.

EYE CANDY: Sleigh Bells – “Infinity Guitars”

Brooklyn duo, Sleigh Bells, have just released the video for one of my favourite tracks off their gritty debut LP, Treats. High school + smoke + fire + dog = “Infinity Guitars.”

Picture this: Alexis Krauss decked out in ubiquitous Ray-bans and a letterman jacket (which also seem to be everywhere recently) walking in slow motion through an industrial alley with a bat in hand. Add some fire to that, and hello–hot (literally and figuratively)! Girl crush material, indeed.

Love the slow build up, and the cuts from grinning cheerleaders to the pyro-eaten pile of guitars create an eerie juxtaposition.

But how is this anything like real life, you ask? It’s not. We only wish we were this cool in high school.

EYE CANDY: Cee Lo Green – F**ck You

In mid-August, Cee Lo Green (one half of Gnarles Barkley) released “Fuck You,” a single off his upcoming The Lady Killer due out Decemeber 7 via the recently resurrected Elektra Records. Steeped in a 60s pop melody complete with female “ooohs and aaaahs,” Cee-Lo is able to turn a break-up with a gold-digging ditcher into an anthem for lonely hearts everywhere. And honestly, I forget he’s cursing half the time.

Easily my favourite song of the summer, this track is bound to have heartbroken lovers forgetting about pining over love lost and greeting the world with the smile and a big “fuck  you.”
