If you haven’t heard of Lourdes Hernandez aka Russian Red, it’s probably because she’s also fairly new in her hometown of Madrid, Spain. She only has one release to her name: 2008′s I Love Your Glasses. And honestly, I have no idea how I stumbled upon this gem of a singer-songwriter last year, but I’m glad I did. There’s something very distinct about her voice. If you’ve heard it once, it’s immediately recognizable. It might have to do with Hernandez’s accent or the quirky way she stretches and bends her voice. While Russian Red’s sound might not be to everyone’s liking (some mind find it a tad grating like Joanna Newsom’s voice), if she suits your tastes, you’ll love her.
I’ve been listening her new track, “Loving Strangers,” non-stop since I got my hands on it. It’s probably my favourite track of hers (I love its subtleties), and I think it’s on the soundtrack to Habitación En Roma (A Room In Rome).

Hi Jo,
I’ve searched numerous times on iTunes Canada and US for the soundtrack, Habitacion en Roma, and have even checked Amazon.com (.ca, .uk, etc.). Amazon does seem to sell the physical cd, however they are all listed as “currently unavailable.”
I even found this Amazon page for the mp3 download of the album, but I can’t for the life of me figure out how to purchase it. You might want to have a look. Other than that, perhaps ebay would be your best bet.

German television ZDF showed “Habitacion en Roma” yesterday and because of the film and this extremely beautiful song i really had to watch it again tonight as an encore presentation.
Very seldomly i’ve seen such a beautiful and deeply enchanting movie and actually never before of such beautiful love between two women.
Allthough i’m quite sure about my manhood i’ve deeply wished i could be a one of these two women …!
This movie was absolutely awesome, heart moving and … … … sorry, i’m missing the right words to describe my feelings … it really touched my heart and deepest feelings …! Thanks a lot for the song and the movie i heard it in first!!!

This is one of the most beautiful song’s I’ve ever heard. The moment I heard this song at the start of the movie ‘Room in Rome’, I simply fell in love with it. It’s, if I may say, an austerely beautiful song.

Wow, what a song. It harkens to ineffable feelings for someone, somewhere, someplace . This combined with the plucky guitar is hypnotic. Gee, am I in love?
